Forfeitures
Unfortunately, the government often seeks to take property (including homes) on claims that it has been used for an illegal purpose or was obtained with money derived from criminal conduct. Forfeitures may be civil or criminal. In civil forfeiture cases, you need to beware that very short claim periods (as short as 30 days) may cut off your right to keep what belongs to you. If you have been served with a forfeiture notice, you should take prompt action to preserve your rights.
