Wills and Related Documents

A service I enjoy offering is the writing of wills and related documents.  While nobody enjoys contemplating death, planning for the inevitable can avoid some very serious consequences.  For example, if a person dies without a will leaving a spouse and child, where the surviving spouse is not the parent of child, the law provides that the child shall receive one half of the estate, and the surviving spouse shall receive the other half.  If the child is a minor, the courts may be involved in determining who shall act as the child’s guardian and who shall manage the money.  Of course, the courts may not make the same choices that the departed parent would have preferred.  Writing a will to avoid these problems is a simple process - the consequences of failing to do so are not.  If you are interested in having a will and related documents drawn, please call or email me and I will send you an outline of the questions you should consider.
